Hi Resident
If you find this information helpful, please “rate” this message at the bottom (very quick and simple).
Last week, I spent a full day engaging with women and girls across the Isle of Wight, delivering targeted safety advice and raising awareness of key tools designed to enhance personal security. The day began at a local Parkrun, where I met with female runners to talk openly about their experiences, concerns, and the realities of exercising alone. Drawing on my own lived experience of running solo, I held meaningful conversations about personal safety and shared practical resources to help women feel more confident while out exercising. A key focus of the engagement was introducing runners to the Hollie Guard App, a personal safety app offering enhanced protection during activities such as running or walking alone. I also discussed Street Safe an anonymous online reporting platform that allows members of the public to highlight locations where they feel unsafe. Both tools were welcomed by participants, prompting honest and constructive discussion. I also received a well-deserved cuddle from Pepe the dog, marking a positive and uplifting end to a morning at Parkrun. Following Parkrun, I visited the Sandown and Lake Girls’ Football Team, where I delivered the same important messages, ensuring younger girls were equipped with safety knowledge and understood when and how to seek help. Throughout the day I made visits to housing providers, hair salons, and leisure venues. At each stop, I provided information on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), explained reporting pathways, and distributed customised domestic abuse advice materials. These conversations were not only well received but also actively valued by staff, customers, and residents alike.
